The society meets monthly at a central location in Melbourne, conducts regular workshops in calligraphy and complementary arts, organises exhibitions, and generally supports and promotes calligraphy and excellence in lettering.
We produce an impressive and informative journal, Postscript, which is sent to members six times a year, and have an extensive library of books, journals and original artwork. We also run Summer School in Winter, an annual event that features international tutors and attracts participants from around Australia and New Zealand – SSiW is the premier conference of its kind in the southern hemisphere. The CSV’s members include professional lettering artists, commercial calligraphers, tutors and hobbyists and their interests range from the most traditional types of calligraphy, to contemporary and experimental forms.
We invite you to browse this site – which contains information about our society, membership, current events, workshops and other relevant topics – and to consider joining the CSV.
Meetings usually feature guest speakers or free mini workshops, while many of our rural, interstate and international members join purely to receive Postscript. If you’ve a passion for lettering, or an interest you’d like to develop, we encourage you to join our lively and welcoming organisation.
