Olive’s love affair with letters and literature began when she started school – and has continued throughout her life – leading her into the world of Calligraphy in the early 1980’s.
She considers herself to have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to study with some of the best-known people, both in Australia and overseas – completing the Roehampton Correspondence course, and a Correspondence course with Thomas Ingmire along the way.
She also did a Certificate course with Ethna Gallacher – Australia’s first Fellow of The Society of Scribes and Illuminators, and continues her studies whenever the opportunity is presented.
Bookbinding has been a parallel interest to calligraphy, and her favourite format for her own work is in the form of a book.
When teaching, she will often have students make a keepsake book as a reference tool – so that they are also having a bookbinding lesson at the same time.
Her training as a High School teacher has stood her in good stead as she continues to teach – nowadays to people who are passionate about what they are learning…and this is what she loves to do more than anything.
Her work is held in various State Libraries, The National Library and in private collections in Australia and overseas.
