This workshop will explore a variety of gilding techniques through their use in calligraphy.

Beginning with gold inks and gouaches we will progress to the more brilliant and subtle effects achievable with real gold; powdered (shell) gold, and raised and flat gold leaf, through the pen and as a surface and as a surface for writing on with colour.

With a combination of skill, experiment and luck, the techniques thus mastered will be brought together in a small project, writing out a short quotation of your choice, about gold, in gold, on gold.

Do you have pieces of work half done and wondering what to do next, or not even started, but just in your mind. Well Lisa is the lady to help you along with all these unfinished objects. Grab your potential masterpiece and join us for a day of colour, calligraphy and fun.

As a group we will workshop the artworks and come up with a range of options for completion. What might be as simple as a touch of colour, a line or two to fill in the gap in the page, a piece of collage or a little embossing to give it a lift.

This will be a fun day among friends where help will come from every direction in the room.

The workshop is suitable for all levels of experience and all styles of calligraphy.

This workshop is designed for beginners wishing to learn about stunning Roman Capitals. Roman lettering is the foundation of all our alphabets!.

Our work will initially be with grey led pencil and coloured pencils, concentrating on form and having fun, we will then move to skeleton and weighted letters, finishing with a fabulous project on the final day!!.

Of all the scripts that we use - in my opinion Romans would have to be the most beautiful and versatile. For those of you who may have been a bit intimidated by Romans - this workshop will begin with the basics and through a series of exercises develop pen skills and an understanding of Roman Lettering proportions.
